  • Europa Universalis IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive, sequel to 2007's Europa Universalis III. This Europa Universalis IV Wiki is intended as a repository of Europa Universalis IV related knowledge, useful for both new and experienced players and for modders.
  • Using these tools, a game can be played from Europa Universalis 4, to Victoria 2, to Hearts of Iron 4. They also work with the official Crusader Kings II to Europa Universalis 4 converter, the unofficial Crusader Kings 2 to Europa Universalis 4 converter, and the Hearts of Iron 4 to Stellaris converter.

Discussion
This is another smaller update. There are some fixes that should lead to fewer reports from the validator tool (and who knows, maybe fewer other bugs). PTSnoop fixed the tags bug that everyone had. He also fixed some flag stuff. Kwsdev also made some improvements to the frontend. If I read it right, you can now cancel in progress conversions, and the frontend should now automatically decompress saves for you if needed. If in the future we get a simple tool that will automatically de-ironman saves, it should support that easily, too.

In case you missed it, /u/thatsgerman10 created a minimod to add to the converter that gives some decisions to help the Americas be a bit more dynamic. Forum link/Download link.

Also, remember that your best best for support is to go to the forum thread (where plenty of people will be eager to help). If you don't have forum access, a new post will probably bring people to help you. Requests here are likely to be ignored, as I simply don't have the time to do the first round of support and others don't check regularly here.

Changes

  • Frontend fixes

  • Tag bug fixed

  • Flag bug fixed

  • Validator a little happier with the output mods

Limitations

  • Still need some improvements to culture conversion

  • Civ/Unciv still only determined by tech group

  • Validator not completely happy with the output mods

How you can help
There are a few areas where we still need help. If you'd like to help, you can:

  • Review province mappings

  • Add 'reset' data to province mappings

  • Review culture mappings

  • Update idea effects

  • Aid with programming

If you'd like to help, feel free to ask for details on how.

FAQ
Q: I got an error that mentions MSVCP120.dll. What do I do?
A :

  • Go to the Visual Studio Redistributable page: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

  • then click Download and select vcredist_x86.exe.

  • Once it has downloaded, install it and run the converter again.

Q: I have an ironman save. Can it be converted?
A: Well in fact you can transform an ironman save into a normal save. I have already tried it.

  1. Locate your ironman save on your computer. If it's on the cloud, there is a copy there : ..Steamuserdatayour account236850remotesave games

  2. Copy it on the 'local' save game directory and edit the copy with a software (notepad++ may be very usefull)

  3. On the first line you will found the three letters of the tag of your nation (BYZ for exemple)

  4. Replace it with another : (FRA because the BBB is always around hehe)

  5. Load the savegame. You will play like france (strange ?)

  6. Save it, change again the nation on the new save

  7. TADAM ! It's no more ironman but a regular save
Thanks to Helkoi for the technique!

Q: I loaded my mod, but nothing changed. What's wrong? A: You probably placed the mod in the My Documents mod folder. It needs to go in the Vic2 install location's mod folder. Alternately, you don't have AHD of HoD. The converter doesn't support non-HoD Vic2 (though it might work anyway), and vanilla Vic2's mod folder doesn't work at all. If you really want to try, you'll have to make a copy of your game install and copy the mod on top of the copy. But really, do yourself a favor and get AHD and HoD.

Q: Vic2 is crashing at converting history. What do I do?
A: Try going into the mod and deleting history/units. If it now loads, likely a navy got placed badly. Open up log.txt and search for warnings. If any mention whitelisting and blacklisting, open port_blacklist.txt and add the provinces in the warnings to file file. Save it and reconvert. Repeat checking for the warnings and adding the provinces until there are no more warnings. You should now get a working mod. Make sure to inform the team of any provinces you had to add so we can include them in future releases.

Q: Vic2 is crashing at Initializing Maplogic. What do I do? A: Clear your map cache by deleting the cache folder inside '.../victoria 2/map/' in both My Documents and the Victoria 2 install location.

Q: I have an error of some kind not mentioned here. How do I get help?
A: Ask on the forum thread or start a new post in /r/paradoxplaza. Posts here may not be noticed or answered.

Two weeks ago, we interviewed Paradox Development Studio on the new converter DLC that lets you import your version of medieval Europe from Crusader Kings II into Europa Univesalis IV . Now that the DLC is out, we went hunting for some of the less than historically accurate groups and nations that can be carried over. From Viking holy orders to a restored Roman Empire, here's how they pan out in EU4.

The Jomsvikings

A Norse Pagan warrior brotherhood that functions as a Holy Order in CK2, the Jomsvikings become a playable Warrior Cult (basically identical to a theocracy) if they survive with landed titles into EU4. In addition to the Land and Naval Forcelimit modifiers they gain from importing the Reformed Norse faith, they also have a unique idea group:

The Jomsvikings Code: Morale of Armies +0.10

The Legend of Jomsborg: Land Forcelimit +15%, Naval Forcelimit +5%

For the Glory of the Allfather: Manpower Recovery Speed +10%

By Thor's Name: Permanent cassus belli against all non-pagans

Adopt Feudal System: Production Efficiency +10%

Implement the Högting: Stability Cost -10%

Valhalla Awaits: Yearly Prestige +1

Their traditions grant a bonus to Leader Shock and Discipline, and completing the tree grants a +10% to Infantry Combat Ability. So, war. And more war. Especially in the early game (when Shock is more important than Fire), they are likely to have one of the scariest armies in the world. I recommend the Quality ideas in the Military group, which will make your soldiers truly peerless.

The Roman Empire

If you managed to restore the Roman Empire as Byzantium using CK2's Legacy of Rome DLC, they will be imported into EU4 as an Empire with a unique idea group:

Pax Romana: National Revolt Risk -1

Legacy of Rome: Diplomatic Reputation +5

S.P.Q.R.: Stability Cost -20%

The Roman Legions: Land Forcelimit +15%, Infantry Combat Ability +10%

Roman Architecture: Production Efficiency +20%

Imperial Bureaucracy: National Tax Modifier +10%

Imperium Sine Fine: Core Creation Cost -20%

Their traditions grant +10% Discipline and +1 Yearly Legitimacy, while completing the track gives you an insane +33% Manpower. This seems more than a little overpowered, based on the other idea groups in the game. But hey, restoring Rome in CK2 isn't easy, so being rewarded with all the tools to become an intercontinental superpower is probably appropriate. In contrast to the Jomsvikings, Rome pairs well with the Quantity military ideas, which should swell your ranks to the point that globally-based legions are barely a tax on your resources.

The High American Tech Group

If your CK2 game was running the Sunset Invasion DLC when you exported it, the Europeans will find a very different version of the Americas when they arrive in EU4. All of the Native American Nations will be lifted up from the New World tech group (200% tech cost, -2 Monarch Power) to a fictional 'High American' tech group, which is identical to the Western tech group (100% tech cost, no monarch power modifiers.)

Central America is blanketed by the Aztec Empire, while their rivals, the Incans (who, if you payed attention to CK2's Aztec Invasion Events, actually invented gunpowder infantry in this universe) dominate South America. Contrary to what I was told in the interview, the other North American states from Vanilla EU4 still exist as independent nations, and they have High American technology. The Creek, Shawnee, and Huron are Feudal Monarchies. the Cherokee have a Theocracy, and the Mayans and Iroquois are... Merchant Republics, for some reason. All follow the Aztec Religion, save the Incans, and the Shamanist Huron.

The new Aztec and Incan relgions are both considered part of the Pagan religious group. The Aztec Religion grants -1 National Revolt Risk and +0.5 Morale of Armies. The Incan Religion grants +10% Tax Modifier, and +1 Tolerance of the True Faith.

The Aztecs and Incans also get unique idea groups, while the rest of the North Americans use the generic ones.

Aztec ideas are mostly focused on warfare and forcibly colonizing the Old World:

Build the Tepochicalli and the Calmecac: Technology Cost -5%

Victoria 2 Cheats

Enact the Flower Wars: National Revolt Risk -1

Invade the Whiteskins: Naval Attrition -10%, enables Conquistadors and Explorers even if you haven't unlocked the prerequisite tech

State Administration Reform: National Tax Modifier +5%

Found the Imperial Cities: Production Efficiency +5%

Found the Imperial Jaguars and Eagles: Discipline +10%

The Imperial Road Network: Global Tariffs +10%

Aztec traditions grant +5% Infantry Combat Ability and -5% Advisor Cost. Completing the track grants +0.1 Morale of Armies.

Incan ideas focus more on economy and infrastructure.

Census Record Quipo: National Manpower Modifier +5%

Enforce Quechua: Stability Cost -5%

Crusader Kings 2 To Eu4 Converter

The Written Word: Technology Cost -10%

Official Axe-monies: National Trade Income +10%

Imperial Gold Trading: Merchants +1

State Administration Reform: National Tax Modifier +5%

Eu4 To Vic2 Converter 1.27

The Imperial Road Network: Global Tariffs +10%

Incan traditions grant +20% Fort Defense and -5% Advisor Cost.Completing the track grants +10% Land Forcelimit.
