Most business software sold these days either comes on a disc or is available on the Internet as an ISO image that you can burn to a CD or DVD. Nevertheless, many older applications or drivers may only be available on the Web as floppy disk images. If you have a floppy drive in your computer, you can simply copy the image to a blank as intended. However, if computers in your business are like most modern ones, they probably have no floppy drive. If this is the case, you can use software to emulate a virtual floppy disk drive so you can extract and copy images.
Virtual Floppy Drive
1.Floppy Emulator
Open your Web browser and navigate to the Virtual Floppy Drive page on SourceForge. Download and install Virtual Floppy Drive on your computer.
2.Launch Virtual Floppy Drive, then click the 'Driver' tab. Click the 'Start' button, then 'Open/Create.'
3.Browse to the 1.44MB image file you want to open in Virtual Floppy Drive. Highlight the image filename, then click 'Open.'
4.Click Start, then 'Computer.' Click the Floppy Disk Icon in the Windows Explorer window to open the virtual floppy drive and view the image. Copy or open the files on the virtual driver just as you would with any physical drive attached to your computer.
DiskSX
2.Open Windows Explorer, then browse to the folder where you saved the diskxs.zip file. Right-click the file, then click 'Extract' or 'Extract Here' on the pop-up menu. After you extract the diskxs.zip file, a new DiskXS.exe file appears in the same folder.
3.Double-click the DiskXS.exe file. After the DiskXS window appears, click 'File' on the menu bar. Browse to the floppy image file you want to open in the file browser window. Highlight the image file, then click 'Open.' The contents of the floppy disk image file appear in the file-viewer pane of the DiskXS window.
4.Click the 'Extract Complete Image' button on the DiskXS toolbar. Select the folder to which you want to copy files from the extracted floppy disk image, then click 'OK.' DiskXS extracts the files from the image and copies them to the selected folder. You can then open or copy files in the destination folder normally.
WinImage
1.Download and install WinImage. Reboot your computer if prompted.
2.Click Start, 'All Programs' and then 'WinImage.'
3.Click 'File' on the WinImage menu bar, then click 'Open.' Browse to the folder containing the 1.44MB floppy image you want to extract. Highlight the floppy image filename, then click the 'Open' button. WinImage displays the file contents of the image in the preview window.
4.Click 'Image' on the toolbar, then click 'Extract.' Select a folder in which to save the contents of the image file, then click 'Extract.' WinImage copies the files from the floppy image to the selected folder.
